Surinam Dollar is the basic unit of currency of Suriname. The currency ISO code of Somali Shilling is SRD. Surinam Dollar has a floating exchange rate.
On January 1, 2004, the Suriname guilder (SRG) will be changed into the Suriname dollar (ISO CODE: SRD) equal to 1000 old Suriname guilder. A new law on foreign currency, which is being prepared, will take into account the convertibility of the Suriname dollar.
Historical data prior to January 1, 2004, are given in Surinam Dollar and were divided per 1, 000. On October 5, 2000, the Central Bank of Suriname devalued the official rate of the Suriname guilder by 48% against the USD. The official rate is equal to SRG 2, 200 per USD instead of 1, 137 SRG previously.
A floating rate for the Surinam guilder was set by the government on July 14, 1994. The Surinam Guilder became a free rate on 20 October 1994.
