New currency unit in Romania. On July 1, 2005, the new leu is effective in Romania, with ISO code RON. Four zeros are dropped from ROL : 1 RON = 10.000 ROL.

Both RON and ROL banknotes and coins will be in physical circulation until the end of 2006. New leu had an appreciation of 21 % against USD in 2006.
