Floating rate of the peso :
On June 20, 2002, the Uruguayan authorities decided to adopt a floating currency regime with the support of the IMF and to abandon the system of parity bands in force since September 1990. As a result the peso depreciated against the USD by 12% in one day. Since the beginning of the year, the peso lost 22% of its value against the USD.
