Jamaican Dollar is the basic unit of currency of Jamaica. The currency ISO code of Jamaican Dollar is JMD.

Jamaican Dollar has a floating exchange rate determined in the interbank market since September 17th, 1990. In September, 1991, the Jamaican dollar was depreciated by 31.9% against the USD.

Since 1991, the Government has followed a program of economic liberalization and stabilization by removing exchange controls, floating the exchange rate, cutting tariffs, stabilizing the Jamaican currency, reducing inflation and removing restrictions on foreign investment. The second goal of this program is also to ban the black market.
